Volos – Delphi

The oracle of Delphi was the meeting point of the ancient Greek world. The oracle’s reputation had surpassed the boundaries of Greece, as evidenced by the findings of the excavations that brought to light tributes from Syria and Armenia. The oracle was dedicated to god Apollo and Pythia, the high priestess, served as the medium that delivered the oracle from the gods to the persons concerned. In antiquity, Delphi was declared the navel(omphalos) of the earth, which seems to be the case until today, since it is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1972, but also a European and World Cultural Center.

Reasons to visit Delphi:

• For hiking from Delphi to Chrisso and Kirra.
• You can follow one of the most famous paths in the region, part of the European long distance E4 path and admire the magic of the area.
• You can visit the cave where Pan and the nymphs were worshipped, where you will see impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
• The Castalian Spring, located in the ravine between the Phaedriades and under the rock Flempoukos. Pythia, the priests and the pilgrims cleansed themselves in this spring.
• You can try the famous formaela cheese in Arachova, honey from Parnassus and local wines.
